Simply Wed’s 5 Favorite 2015 Wedding Trends to Watch

I’ve always loved trend forecasting, since the idea was introduced to me while studying fashion design.  The excitement of taking new ideas and translating them into something accessible for brides is just the BEST!  Some of the ideas here are things that we’ve seen before, with a new twist, or just making their way to the NW.  Hopefully you will be inspired!

Geometric Shapes
Yes, you’ve seen our various Geometric designs from 2014, but they are staying strong for 2015 – it often happens that it takes a while for a trend to take hold in the PNW.  Whether subtle or strong, this trend makes a unique impression on your guests.

All shades of Blue
I’ve always championed the use of tonal shades in one color family, as it allows the mix and match of the shades readily available in nature, allows you to be more creative in your presentation and gives a depth to the design that you don’t see with one “exact shade” repeated through everything.  Blues are having a moment here – think dip dyed fabrics, deep velvet ribbon and  blue & white vintage china.

And try this…mixed with an accent in the Pantone Color of the Year – Marsala – yum!

High-tech Integrations
Instagram hashtags for the wedding – big last year, still big this year! With new ways to shoot – selfie sticks and post-event albums – Instagram wedding hashtags are an awesome idea for getting a great set of fun pics from your big day.

Add to that, the lovely charging stations…because everybody’s battery dies at the worst time! You can do this in a cute way that ties into your décor – trust me, your guests will thank you!!

Neons
Hot pink, neon yellow, bright orange…need we say more? Yes, you can do neon in a sophisticated way that invokes a feeling of fun and festivity (not 1980s surf gear). Anchoring the tones with a black or gold “neutral” gives it that elegant edge.

Boho 60s & 70s vibes

Glamorous canvas tipis, mixing and matching patterns, awesome chunky laces and sueded accents, wildflowers and even macramé. If one thing is certain, you must have some part of the outdoors as an element, as no true boho would have it any other way! The key is to keep is relaxed and chill, and not get too design-y. I knew my mom’s cotton wedding dress from the early 70s would make its way back into the trend mix!

Seattle Wedding {Michelle & Domenic} Country Barn Charm

The wedding of Michelle and Domenic took place on a very warm, summer day in September of 2013. This sweet couple wanted a wedding day that was laid back and down to earth, much like the couple’s personalities.

Simply Wed plans weddings all over Washington, and this beautiful summer wedding took place in Thorp, WA. Michelle and Domenic were looking for a barn venue that was on a real farm, provided good old fashioned bbq, and was a bit secluded. Springwood Ranch Party Barn was just the place for their vision. Located on a working ranch, the semi open Party Barn has a covered wagon, a wooden bridge over a lazy creek, miniature golf, a large wooden dance floor, and whole top sirloin cooked over alder wood on an open pit, as their specialty cuisine.

The ceremony was located outside, with the ranch’s natural beauty as the backdrop. We had a tent for cocktail hour to provide shade from Central Washington’s hot summer sun.

Decor was focused on the barn’s rustic charm. Flowers were in mason jars hung from the wooden pillars, centerpieces included burlap, wood slices, and more mason jars with flowers. We kept the colors neutral with ivory linens with chocolate brown overlays, ivory paper lanterns, and homemade jam as the wedding favors (made by the bride herself!). The wedding cake, from The People’s Cake, matched the table decor and flowers perfectly!

The Springwood Ranch provided SO many beautiful places for the bride and groom portraits. As the sun went down on this gorgeous day, even more spectacular photo opportunities were possible!
