Holiday Card

Save the Dates {Wedding Paper Divas}

It’s that time of year when many of our clients are getting ready to send out save the date cards for their 2013 weddings, and we love save the dates!  Save the date cards are an important part of your wedding, as they allow for you to notify your guests of your wedding in advance as well as setting the tone for the event to come.  While they don’t have to match the theme or exact colors of the wedding, it is nice to match the tone and style you have in mind.  Since wedding invitations usually get sent out closer to your wedding (usually 6-10 weeks prior to the date), save the date cards give your guests advanced knowledge of the wedding to ensure they don’t have anything conflicting at that time.  You want to make sure your date gets on everybody’s calendars early! And don’t forget – etiquette says, if you send guests a Save the Date, they must also be invited to the wedding, so make sure you have your guest list confirmed when you send out the cards!  And finally, send it anytime after the one-year-mark passes so that your guests aren’t confused about what year you are getting married (seems obvious, but it’s happened before!)

One of my favorite places to get Save the Date cards is Wedding Paper Divas – they have great selection, modern styling and the prices can’t be beat.  Here are some of my current faves!

Recent Press {Rustic Spring Wedding} Style Me Pretty

Wowee – we are so proud & a little excited & maybe a little giddy to have a wedding that we designed earlier this spring featured on Style Me Pretty!  After waiting in anticipation when Dana Pleasant, photographer extraordinaire, submitted the wedding…it finally got published this past week!  For those of you who don’t know, this is pretty much the best wedding blog out there and it’s sort of a big deal to have a wedding on there.  Just saying.  It was fun to have a wedding that we didn’t actually plan, but one that we exclusively did the design for.  It allowed me to focus on every tiny visual detail just that much more, and struck a fun balance with my other endeavors.  From the chalkboard artwork with details to match the invitations to the spools hand-wrapped with Mehgan’s choice of string – not a thing was overlooked!  And I can’t say enough about my partner in crime, Simply Wed’s florist Susan Snyder, who perfectly created the flowers for the entire day in the style that the clients dreamed of.  It is one of my favorite wedding designs of all time, and I hope you enjoy it just as much!   Check out the Style Me Pretty Feature HERE!

Seattle Wedding {Frank & Mehgan} Rustic Chic

On May 5, 2012 Frank and Mehgan celebrated the union of their love at the rustic DeLille Cellars in Woodinville, Washington.  Simply Wed captured and reflected the couples grace and charm with a design of soft colors and delicate personal touches. The blending of vintage turquoise mason jars, crochet doilies, and spools of thread brought out old world charms with a rustic chic flare.  The flowers included a luscious mix of peonies, dahlias, dusty miller, ranunculus and scabiosa pods…a mix that has since become one of our favorite textural combinations! The couple beautifully tied in the groom’s Dutch heritage with a Dutch tradition of a Wishing Tree, artfully made out of wooden puzzle pieces and displayed generations of family photos for the guests to admire.  Timeless chalkboard signs designed by Simply Wed flanked delicious treats and favors of the newlywed’s favorite coffee roast in a miniature lace trimmed burlap bags. The personalized décor was carried thought out the entire evening and truly depicted the love frank and Mehgan share. This was certainly an evening with love that honored past traditions and new beginnings.  It was a treat to design this spring wedding with the couple from across the pond – Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

Seattle Wedding {Lauren & Jeff} Engagement Photos Sneak Peak

A Simply Wed Sneak Peak: Bride and Groom to be Lauren and Jeff  share their timeless engagement photo set shot by Paul Joseph Brown.  The Wedding is to be held on December 15, 2012 at the Alexis Hotel. Simply Wed cannot wait to share this special day with such a beautiful couple!

Seattle Wedding {Akiko & Henry} Modern Simplicity

On April 27th 2012 two young architects from CA, Akiko Sekiya and Henry Lau, exchanged vows at the stunning Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, Washington. The destination wedding ceremony was held at the bottom of cascading terraces in front of the dramatic silhouette of Richard Serra, sculpture, WAKE. Simply Wed had the honor of designing the foundation for an unforgettable wedding sure to please any architect. Understated hues of concrete gray emphasized by shades of buttery yellows and whites captured the mesmerizing mural by Sandra Cinto entitled Encontro das Águas (Encounter of Waters).  Akiko and Henry were the lucky couple to have the first wedding in front of OSP’s brand-new exhibition – what an honor!  Simply Wed’s own in house floral designer Susan Snyder created simplistic floral touches of intertwined yellow and white calla lilies surrounded by onyx river rock detail for a modern center piece. Architectural themes carried throughout the décor with artfully strung lanterns welcoming guests to hang well wishes for the newlyweds on colorful papers – also a play on Japanese tradition of tying wishes to strings. Playful details of airplane prints were throughout the décor celebrating the travels of all their guests – and themselves -  to gather in one place to celebrate the beginning of a beautiful marriage. Congrats Akiko and Henry!

Recent Press {Ode to Ombre} Seattle Bride Magazine

We were honored a few months back to be tapped to design an entire spread (!) for Seattle Bride Magazine.  Having creative freedom to select a theme, colors & design elements was a joy – and a chance to show a little bit of what Simply Wed is all about!  Enjoy this recap of “Ode to Ombre” from the Spring/Summer 2012 issue of Seattle Bride Magazine, inspired by the worlds of fashion and art.

Pare down the multihued palette and let your favorite color shine alone in all of its glorious shades.
By: Brittany Allen, photography by: Hayley Young

Inspired by the ombre trend gracing the spring fashion runways, event designer Kirstie Warren of Edmonds-based Simply Wed, turned hues of oh-so-Northwest evergreen into a bright, monochromatic scheme high on style. “The use of various shades frees up the design process, giving you permission to play within one color family without worrying if the bridesmaids’ dresses match the napkins,” she says. The versatility lies in the inexactness as shades transition from bright kelly to chartreuse, adding depth and dimension to every chic detail.

(above) This wild, cascading bridal bouquet by Simply Wed’s in-house floral designer Susan Snyder is filled with maidenhair ferns, eucalyptus pods, orchids, fragrant oregano, strings of succulent pearls, aeonium and hydrangea greens, offsetting an ivory wedding gown without stealing the show. $225.

(above) Kent-based Merchant’s Paper & Design goes monochromatic in organic style with a layered invitation suite complete with every accoutrement, including a farm-fresh menu
and place cards in tonal shades of mint, pear and asparagus green. $10 for invitation suite; table numbers and menus, $1.75 each; place cards, $2.50 each.

(above) Bless your guests with a custom-designed favor by Kirstie Warren of Simply Wed: ombre rock candy sticks sweetly set in an absinthe-green glass bottle, $10. (Candy from The Confectionery at U Village; bottle from Ravenna Gardens; PS Stores’ calligraphy tag attached with velvet ribbon.)

(above) Each row of hand-cut fondant ruffles on this three-tier cake by Judy Tallant of Tallant House in Monroe is individually dyed in soft, varying shades of green. The orange-liqueur-soaked white cake, filled with light calamansi lime curd and coconut mousse, is worthy of its labor-intensive outer design. Serves 60, $15/slice.

(above) Mix up your wedding-day jewels with one of these dazzling rings from Green Lake Jewelry Works. Wear one alone or stack multiples, but be warned: They’re sure to make your guests green with envy. Clockwise from left: palladium set tourmaline and green diamond ring; baguette-cut tourmaline yellow gold ring; and palladium mounted green sapphire ring. $1,260–$2,328.

Seattle Wedding {Anna & Ash} Blending Traditions

On April 7th 2012 Simply Wed had the pleasure of creating a fusion of ceremonies as unique and beautiful as the couples love. Anna DeSista and Ashrith Amarnath exchanged vows beneath a beautifully lit arch of cherry blossoms. The ceremony officiate Annemarie Juhlian elaborately fused together both Hindu and Catholic traditions. The friends and family gathered at The Arctic Club in the historic Dome room located in Seattle, Washington. The 1920’s classic charm carried throughout the night as the guests enjoyed live music performed by the talented Sean Wheatley of Seattle Parties and the warm personalized décor suited for such a romantic and intimate evening.  Light pinks, creams, and silver accents were incorporated throughout as a symbol of new beginnings and a fusion to two very loving families.  A big congratulation to the new Mr. & Mrs. Amarnath!
